Hi, Thanks for taking the time out to make a contribution to MY new venture.....So tell us a little bit about yourself.. My name is Oracy, i am 24 and i still reside in my home town of Wolverhampton. Over the last two years i have been working on a variety of music/spoken word projects along with working on the initial phases of a hemp clothing company and an eco-village.
What made you decide to go into business, & how did you get into Business/Music? Music wise, it was just a case of wanting to express myself and educate others. Hip Hop has always been a great tool of getting messages across to people and i recognised it being used in a positive way when i first started listening to UK Hip Hop at around the age of 15. It was only over the last two years of being re-introduced to this that i started to produce my own music and take a real interest in reading, writing and rapping. Okay..wow...that's young...My interest in developing 'Hempathise', a clothing company based on hemp products, arose during my time at university and through meeting a French clothing company called Hold up Wear, who now sponsor my music projects. Whilst studying Architectural Design Technology, i learnt a great deal about the diversity of hemp and the benefits of its use. The underlying principle of Hempathise is to promote these benefits to others. Additionally, my studies have led me to designing an eco-village of arts. Wow! That sounds amazing! The village itself is built out of hemp wherever feasible and the village promotes learning and the sharing of ideas through a variety of mediums. What is your inspiration? Over the last two years i have met a number of positive and forward thinking individuals through music. They have introduced to issues and ideas that i would otherwise be unaware of and they have inspired me to do the same. Having people around me that think in a similar manner is very refreshing for me and keeps me motivated in my goals. Reading keeps my mind open and keen. What Jamaican and/or black business do you most admire and why? Akala is someone i would class as an inspiration and someone to look up to. His music is well rounded and educational and he spends time, resources and energy on positive projects such as The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company. He constantly promotes the importance of learning, self improvement and healthy living. He is self sufficient, owning his own record label, Illa State Records, along with his own library and vegetarian restaurant which he set up as a teenager (amongst other businesses). I am sure that at one time he was Britain's youngest black company owner. He is also very polite and humble and seems to have his priorities in order. What would you say to budding entrepreneurs? Keep your agenda positive and your intentions pure. In your own words....@ORACYmusic to find out more about what i do. http://www.youtube.com/user/ORACYmusic?feature=mhee 'Bag'a Collaba's E.P' Featuring Out November 1st 2012 'Foot In The Door E.P' will be out for release early 2013 'Hempathise Clothing' Available April 2013 Thank you very much, Oracy & wishing you all the success in your upcoming ventures.
